Climate ChangeDrier conditions and unreliable rainfall. It rains less than it did 50 years ago which contributes to an increased risk of soil erosion due to the lack of vegetation able to survive in these increasingly harsh conditions. Over CultivationThis happens because of an increasing need for food. The soil becomes exhausted with no break in between crops so it becomes even more infertile. It will turn to dust and be eroded away. |
Population PressurePopulation increase increases the demand for fuel wood which results in trees being stripped of their branches which makes them die. When they die, there are less roots binding the soil together which increases the risk of soil erosion. More people also increases the demand for food which can result in over cultivation and over grazing. Once the animals have eaten the limited vegetation, the land will turn to desert through the process of soil erosion. Soil ErosionWhen there is a lack of vegetation, there is a lack of roots to bind the soil together. Therefore when the wind and rain comes it can be easily eroded away. |
