Cause:
Haiti is a country in the Caribbean. The earthquake was a 7.0 on the Richter scale and 10 on the Mercalli scale. At a conservative plate boundary, two plates move past each other. These two plates are called the Gonave platelet and the Caribbean plate. The plates get stuck and pressure builds up. When they slip past each other, the pressure is released as an earthquake. |
